Preparing for Laser Hair Removal

Preparing for Laser Hair Removal

Are you tired of taking the extra time and effort to shave every day? If you are ready to get rid of that unwanted body hair, Premier Spa & Laser Center has the right treatment for you, no matter your skin type. Laser hair removal can reduce unwanted hair from your brows to your toes, and everywhere in between. Let’s get started:

Consultation

You will want to start by first scheduling a consultation to determine the best, most effective laser hair removal treatment for you. Provide a full medical history during your consultation, telling your physician about any allergies, medications, or health problems prior to the procedure. Ask about the risks and weigh them against the benefits to decide if this is the best hair removal method for you. Some of the risks may include burns, scars, or permanent skin color changes.

Before the Procedure

Before your procedure, avoid tanning and sunless tanners for at least 6 weeks. Your skin needs to be as light as possible for your treatment, so apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least an SPF 30 if you will be spending time outdoors. You can also try scheduling your appointment in the colder months so you will be less likely to spend time outdoors tanning your skin. You may be prescribed a bleaching cream to help lighten your skin. You should also refrain from plucking or waxing your skin for 6 weeks as it will irritate your skin. Right before your appointment, wash the areas that will be treated with soap and warm water to remove any dirt, oils, and makeup that may interfere with the treatment. Do not apply lotions, perfumes, or deodorants to the areas.

During the Procedure

Wear comfortable, loose clothing to your appointment. Depending on the area that will be treated, you may be asked to change into a gown, but wearing loose clothing will make matters easier regardless. Allow the physician to clean the skin at the treatment site to reduce the risk of infection. Some people report that laser treatment feels like a hot pin prick or a rubber band snapping against your skin.

After the Procedure

It is normal to experience some pain, redness, and swelling after the procedure. You may apply an ice pack wrapped in a paper towel or clean dish towel to the area for 10 to 15 minutes at a time every hour or two. Be sure to take good care of your skin after the treatment to ensure lasting results. Refrain from tanning for at least 6 weeks post-treatment.
